Wild weather weekend for NSW, Qld

Dangerous surf conditions are set to lash the New South Wales coast this weekend, while Queensland is bracing for a stormy few days.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a warning for “hazardous” surf and swell conditions for the Byron, Coffs, Macquarie and Hunter Coasts on Saturday morning, expected to remain in place until Sunday.

The Bureau said people should consider staying out of the water, as onshore winds combine with a low developing in the Tasman Sea capable of driving coastal showers and storms.

The wet weather is set to push into Queensland as well, with residents of the southeast told to prepare for possible thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Further north, a developing low in the gulf and in the Coral See is causing widespread heavy rain for the tropics.

Western Victoria and Tasmania could also be in for a wet weekend, with another trough developing over southern parts of the country.

Meanwhile, South Australians are set to breathe a sigh of cool relief, with cooler conditions forecasted for the weekend following a sweltering week of scorching temperatures.
