A Sydney beach has reopened after being temporarily closed on Friday when a pair of sharks were spotted offshore.
Randwick Council confirmed Maroubra Beach in Sydney’s eastern suburbs was shut just before 12.30pm when two sharks were spotted 30m and 100m from the shoreline.
The council said the beach remained closed while the sharks – measuring 1.5m and 2m in length – were “encouraged” from the area by helicopters.
The council said the beach reopened about 1.20pm.
A number of jet skis were also used to search for the sharks.
